I finally found a project to use Hillary’s great Stitchettes patterns for. I was hoping my sister would have another girl, for just this reason, and I was in luck!

It’s a little quilt, to hang on the wall of her room. I did most of the embroidery in the car on a trip we took last month and it was surprisingly pleasant, given that I haven’t done any embroidery in years. Also, it was good distraction from the major blizzard we were driving through at the time!
And since a good auntie can’t send a present for the new baby without sending something for her big sister, I also got this lovely book, When You Were Small, by Sara O’Leary with illustrations by Julie Morstad who also did the great artwork for the newest Neko Case album. I love kids books! In addition to the beautiful illustration and sweet story, this one is an especially nice hardcover with a really pretty binding, which I am a total sucker for in books.

I’m still trying to find the perfect application for Hilary’s Stitchettes. She’ll probably have the whole alphabet done before I do, though.

that is the perfect application! So cute.
After an embroidery hiatus, my next project is embroidering the names of all 25 kids in my daughter’s class on a quilt they’re making for the school auction.
Did you freehand the name as you went or did you write it on paper and then use a transfer pencil?

It’s wonderful. I especially admire your handwriting and how it came out in embroidery. I may have to copy this idea for some twins I’m soon to be auntie to!

I’ve been wanting to do these little stickettes but I didn’t know what to do with them. Thanks so much for the idea. I really do love this!!!!

How cute!! I have been coveting those stitchettes patterns and you definately do them justice. What a wonderful project.
I, too, am a sucker for a well-bound book. They say ‘you can’t judge a book by its cover’ but if it has a nice binding, I’m not so sure!

It’s the little details that make the embroidery so special and endearing.
The sash in the girl’s hair, the tie-up shoes, the flowers in their hands.
Great job!

We love both the quilt and the book! Thanks again!

the baby quilt is so cute. such a lovely way to enjoy the stitchettes! it’s so pretty with the patchwork border, too.
i was thinking of using these patterns on the edge of a pillowcase for a new baby, but so inspired by this… might have to change plans!

The wall quilt is wonderful! What a great idea for putting together embroidery and quilting. I love the fabrics you chose for the piecework too. If only my embroidery skills were a bit sharper…
