books I always find it difficult to find quilting books that appeal to my style of quilting, so I was quite delighted to find this Make your own contemporary quilts at my local library. With photographs by Paolo Pieroni, the book has twenty quilt projects by different quilt artists. There is a very brief section on techniques, but the majority of the book is the projects. So, while you shouldn’t rely on the book to teach you how to quilt, the projects themselves are quite lovely and gave me lots of inspiration. I don’t know if I would make one step by step as pictured (but really, when do I ever do that?) but I would definitely use the ideas. Some of my favorites (click for larger images):

This one, called Art Deco Abstract, made from silk, linen and velvet. I love the idea of combining textures this way.

Machiko’s gift, made from vintage kimono pieces, with some interesting braid and embroidery details.

My absolute favorite, made from pieces of vintage embroidery. I love this idea! I think I might make some pillows like this.

Obviously I’m partial to the stripes and geometrics, but they had some nice other designs as well, like this poppies quilt, which reminds me of marimekko fabric.

I really liked looking through this book, I would say that I would probably buy my own copy, just to have on hand for inspiration.

Does anyone have any other recomendations for contemporary quilt books that I might not know about?
