We have been accumulating mismatched wooden chairs from the thrift store and have finally managed to get a ’set’ of six (for some reason chairs are hard to find in our neighborhood, it really was tough to find six sturdy ones). Unfortunately, three of these chairs had slightly stained and/or ugly seat covers. So I recovered them.

The process is really quite easy, although I’m sure I’m not doing a job that a real upholsterer would find acceptable. I just unscrewed the seat from the chair, cut a piece of fabric to fit and stapled it on, folding the fabric at the corners. The hardest part turned out to be screwing the seats back on straight, go figure!

Oh those look great. You are my inspiration. I bought some fabric at IKEA about 3 weeks ago and have been meaning to do the same thing with our chairs. Now I just have to do it. ugh..

Oh my, your chairs turned out wonderful! I love the fabric choice. I am getting ready to recover an ugly bench, so it’s nice to hear it’s a pretty breezy process (it helped that I scored massive books on the subject from the library).
I also quick-like want to say what a fan I am of your blog. Thanks for the inspirations and such!

We just got a really cool chair from the early sixties for 20 bucks at a little consignment store and we re-covered the seat. It’s pretty cool. Doesn’t it make you feel good when you can do stuff like that?!

This is my first time commenting on your site, but I’ve been reading for a little while now! I’m impressed by those chairs, and I think it’s wonderful that you reused older chairs rather than buying anything brand new, it’s not necessary and yours look lovely!
