Frustrated by my lack of time to start working on the large quilting projects I had ideas for after my recent trip to the Folk Art Museum in New York, and inspired by Amy’s beautiful art quilts at kingpod, I decided to try out some of my ideas in mini quilt form.

I’ve been thinking of ways to use image transfers in quilting projects for ages, and I’m really pleased with the results of this one. Just for scale, it’s about 10.5″x8″. I’ve already got ideas for several more, when I can find time to put them together. I’m tempted to drop out of school and just craft all day long… but don’t worry mom, I’m not going to…. yet.

Sarah, I am doing transfers with laser printer printouts (photocopies work too). You can do it with acrylic medium I think, but I am using a thing called a transparent blender pen, which you can get at an art store. You color the back of the printout and rub it onto the fabric or paper, and it transfers the image.

That is beautiful — I love the tree images. Is it a wall hanging? How do you do the overlapping quilt squares? Are the ones that appear to be on top appliqued on?

Wouldn’t it be lovely if we had no other obligations, and we could raft all day long. If only we could use all 24 hour, then we might be able to scratch the surface of the project we want to work on.
I ahve been visiting your blog a lot recently, so I thougth I would say hi. I just love everything you create.
