A combination of some birthday gifts and a gift certificate has led to recent growth in my crafty library.

First is this book about book making, with lots of really gorgeous projects and interesting techniques (thanks Grant and Alix!) I keep looking at it and getting excited to try some of the ideas, but I haven’t found time yet!

Then an international vegetarian cookbook from my sister, which looks really great. All the recipes seem fairly basic because most only have a few ingredients, but they are based on combinations of basic flavours from different parts of the world that I think will be really tasty!

Then a treat for myself, scarf style. Since scarves are my favorite knitting project, I thought I should own this book. I don’t usually buy knitting books because I don’t often make more than one thing out of a book so I feel like I should just get it from the library. To tell you the truth, I am not totally sold on the idea of owning this book either, but I am trying it out as an experiment. We’ll see how many projects I end up making from it…

And last but not least, Denyse Schmidt Quilts (check out the excerpt here). If you care at all for quilting or fabrics you must immediately go out and buy this book. It is so beautiful, the projects are so inspiring, and her use of color is amazing! I want to make every single thing in it and have already started a couple of things to practice putting fabrics together the way she does. I am so excited about this book, I can’t stop looking at it!

That Denyse Schmidt book has been on the top of my Christmas wishlist for a while now but I think I may have to add the Handmade Books book as well – it is beautiful.

I have Shereen Laplantz’s first book, Cover to Cover, and love it. Before you make anything from The Art and Craft of Handmade Books, you might want to check out the author’s website (laplantz.com): she wrote a set of notes called “My Version of The Art and Craft of Handmade Books” and includes instructions for binding them into *your* book!

I ordered the Denyse Schmidt book on Monday and I can’t wait until it arrives in the mail! I quilt but I have mostly done “country” or “vintage” designs. I am looking forward to some new ideas!
